Mavuno Artist Talk and Preteen Workshop

MAVUNO, translated as “harvest” in Swahili, begins at the start of the Fall/Harvest season. This year, Sweetwater is hosting Tina Williams Brewer as Artist-In-Residence. There are two upcoming events:

Pre-teen Workshop (Ages 9-12)

Learn more about the emojis that have become commonplace in our texts! This workshop for preteens draws connections between symbol usage in our modern emojis and texts and our ancestors' writing practices. Students will use collage, hand sewing, and hole punch quilting techniques to create fiber art wall hangings, linking the symbols of the past and present. FREEPre-registration is required. Sign up HERE.
